We’re back for stop number two on our great American road trip! The historic Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts is home to the Boston Red Sox and is known for its iconic Green Monster, passionate fans, and intense rivalry with the New York Yankees. As a die-hard Yankee fan, I’ve bravely agreed to step into the lion’s den and experience Fenway Park firsthand. Let’s see if I survive the day without getting too much “friendly” heckling from the Red Sox faithful. Before I get there though, read about our Fenway Park expectations.
Fenway Park Stadium Expectations
After an eight hour drive from Toronto, we arrive in Boston where we will see the Boston Red Sox battle the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim or whatever overdramatic and redundant name they go by now. The Red Sox’s home ballpark of Fenway Park is an MLB classic that has withstood the test of time. While most other teams have caved and built a modern ballpark, Fenway Park has kept its old charm. Opening on April 20, 1912, just five days after the Titanic sunk, Fenway Park is a baseball fanatics dream. While it may look outdated on the outside, the prestige more than makes up for it. I was here once in 2014 and Brittny has never been. We expect a very old looking ballpark with many imperfections and outdated styles (including a manual scoreboard). However, those unique characteristics are what make this place a classic.
Game Expectations at Fenway Park
Sunday (4/14/24)-Los Angeles Angels @ Boston Red Sox
The game will take place on Sunday, April 14th at 1:35pm. Our seats are in Field Box 2, row 11, which we believe should put us at or around the famous Pesky’s Pole. Our chances of getting on the local broadcast are high as many balls are hit to that short section of the ballpark and are known to also hop into the stands. We are very much looking forward to this game as Fenway Park is a ballpark we have yet to experience together. Our day starts with a tour of Fenway Park before the game at 10am. During the tour, we believe that we will visit the field and see the Green Monster as well as meet Wally, the Red Sox mascot. We can’t wait to hear and sing along to Sweet Caroline during the seventh inning. We are excited to see a young Red Sox team (even though as a Yankees fan it will pain me to root for them). There are many stars playing in the game so we expect a good game where the only hit for the Angels will be from Mike Trout because it definitely won’t be from Anthony Rendon.
